CED151 - Teaching in the Church

A Course for Lay & Clergy

October 25, 2013 - 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

October 26, 2013 - 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Dr. Carmichael D. Crutchfield, General Secretary of the CME Department of Christian Education invites you to a training session entitled "Teaching In The Church."  Learners will study the purpose of teaching and will examine the practical steps of crafting, planning, communicating and delivering a message. The course includes a component that gives students an opportunity to construct, teach, and evaluate messages taught in the local church.  Being sensitive to travel expenses and traditional attendance limitations, Dr. Crutchfield will deliver this training in a video conference--all you need is a computer and internet.  EVERYONE (both clergy and lay) can attend from the comfort of your home or local church.  Registration is $10 per person.

CED111 - Christian Education in the African American Church

A Course for Pastors & Clergy

To be announced

This course is specifically designed for pastors and clergy as they review Christian Education theory, practices, in a congregational and an African-American Church context.   It is an prerequisite and introductory course for the six (6) learning sessions towards Christian Education Certification for Pastors and Clergy.  Teaching will directly relate to the work of pastors as they lead and serve their congregations.  Each participant will be required to purchase individual resources and supplies.

CED113 - Formation & Nurture

A Course for Pastors & Clergy

To be announced

Christian formation is the name of a whole group of activities meant for all ages in our lifelong journey to the fullness of life in Christ.  Pastors and clery, in this course, will examine the methods and structures that help us grow and mature into vibrant Christians.  Our knowledge about God must be nurtured and mentored into a relationship with Him.  Our sprititual lives are supported by Christian Education, and by an enriched parish life and fellowship.  We are nurtured by prayer, worship, the study of scripture, spirituational direction, and the sacraments.  Attendees explore the lifelong journey to be Christ to the world and to bring the love of God to friend and stranger.  Each participant will be required to purchase individual resources and supplies.

CED114 - Moving the Church to Becoming A Learning Community

A Course for Pastors & Clergy

To be announced

A learning community is a group of people who share common emotions, values or beliefs, are actively engaged in learning together from each other, and by habituation. Our CME learning community regards each student as an image bearer of our God with unique talents and abilities that are used in service to Him.  Education is the foundation for God's calling in our vocations which are not only a task but also and an invitation to worship. Each participant will be required to purchase individual resources and supplies.

CED115 - How Do We Learn

A Course for Pastors & Clergy

To be announced

As every teacher discovers, no two students approach learning in exactly the same way. Some get more from visual imagery while others prefer verbal explanations; some tend to try things out and see what happens and others are more inclined to think things through first; some reason in a relatively sequential manner and others have a more holistic orientation; some are most comfortable with concrete (“real-world”) information and others are more drawn to abstract theories and symbolism, and so on. A learning style is a particular set of those tendencies.  Awareness of learning style differences can help us teach in a manner that effectively reaches most students.  Each participant will be required to purchase individual resources and supplies.
