Connectional Youth
& Young Adult Week
January 27 - February 3, 2013

The celebration of Connectional Youth and Young Adult Week is an important event in the life of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. This week provides an opportunity for Youth and Young Adults in the local church to join with adults and leaders of the church in community, prayer, worship and mission.

For the past four years the Department of Christian Education has continued to lift up the theme “Doing a New Thing,” throughout the Connectional Church. We pray that Pastors, Christian Educators, Youth Workers and other leaders have embraced the formula developed for by the Department of Christian Education: Formation + Nurture + Leadership = Mission.  As always we encourage leaders to challenge youth and young adults in your local congregation to explore ministries and missions that explore ministries and missions that embrace the “essentialness” of the Acts 2 Church. This year our focus is on New Wineskins and how we challenge the church to relate and respond to God doing a new thing in reaching a new Generation specifically in the African American Church.

This year the focus is on Christian nurture and spiritual formation as we engage the youth and young adults in intentional faith development. We encourage Pastors and Directors of Christian Education to engage youth and young adults in the planning and implementation of Youth and Young Adult week. We have included some suggested ideas, however we recognized that every local congregation is unique and has a variety of gifts and talents. This is a good time to help youth and young adults discover their spiritual gifts.
