African Methodist Episcopal
The idea of Christian Education is deeply rooted in the traditions and history of African Methodism.  Christian Education in the form of Sunday School work was organized in 1794. Richard Allen, founder and first bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, organized the first African American Sunday School at Mother Bethel, Philadelphia.  A formal plan for a Sunday School Union did not develop until 1884 when the General Conference, adopted it and elected Charles S. Smith, M.D. as its corresponding secretary.  More information...

African Methodist Episcopal Zion
Founded in 1887, the Christian Education Department (CED) of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church provides supervision, guidance, direction and programmatic support of the Christian training and nuture of children, youth, young adults and adults throughout the A. M. E. Zion Church. Often described as a "cradle to the grave" ministry, Christian Education supports Christian development in homes, churches, camps as well as church-related schools, colleges and seminaries.  The Christian Education Department offers workshops, seminars, conferences and conventions that help develop effective skills in Christian Educators and those striving for a closer walk with the Lord. It also establishes curriculum and other standards to support Christian Education programs at every level of the church.  More information...

United Methodist
For over 30 years, The General Board of Discipleship (GBOD) has been on the journey of making disciples for Jesus Christ. An agency of The United Methodist Church, GBOD helps local church, district, and conference leaders fulfill the shared dream of making world-changing disciples.  The agency connects leaders with needed resourcing, training, consulting, and networking that support spiritual formation, new church development, revitalization of local churches, and materials for use in Central Conferences.  GBOD has embarked upon an integrated, strategic direction that serves the church with continuity, based upon basic values and mission.  More information...
